My name is Aileen, and I’m the current chapter president. I thought it might be a good idea to kick off our blog with a trip down memory lane—it seems like freshman year was just yesterday, and yet here I am, getting ready to move into the sorority house for my senior year!
When I started at Penn, I really hadn’t thought about joining a sorority at all. Where I come from in Arizona, Greek life is a little bit intense and I wasn’t sure it was something that I wanted to be a part of. I joined club soccer that fall, where I made some amazing friends, some who were my age and many who were older. After talking to some of the upperclassmen who were affiliated, I realized that Greek life at Penn may be just what I was looking for—a way to meet people I never would have interacted with otherwise, and a great opportunity to make our big, urban campus feel a little bit smaller.
I went through rush in the spring of my freshman year, and was thrilled to receive a bid from Sigma Kappa. It was a house where I immediately felt comfortable, where I wasn’t second-guessing what I had just said or whether my hair had blown out of place. Three years later, that feeling hasn’t changed at all. This sorority has defined my college experience—I’m a better person because of the people I have met and the lessons I have learned through Sigma Kappa. My sisters are some of my best friends, roommates, and cheerleaders, and I cannot imagine life without them. Most importantly, at the end of the day, I get to come back to a house that truly feels like home, filled with people who love and support me no matter what. I feel supremely lucky to have found Sigma Kappa, and I hope that you have the opportunity to do the same!
